Platform Engineer

This exciting opportunity is for a Platform Engineer to join our Cloud and Infrastructure Technology team.

Your opportunity

In this role you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the infrastructure delivering and driving an agile, stable, and secure platform across our Public & Private Clouds, Data Centers & Destination Centers. This role ensures that our platforms are scalable, secure, and reliable to meeting the organisations ongoing needs. 

As the Platform Engineer your responsibilities will include.  

• Manage, maintain & administer infrastructure-as-code cutting edge technologies. 
• Implement security best practices for platform infrastructure, including patch management, vulnerability assessments, and incident response: this includes afterhours on-call support. 
• Manage the On-Premises infrastructure, in our data centres and edge to support our hybrid environments. 
• Monitor and analyse trends in system performance, cost, capacity, and reliability. 
• Perform regular platform maintenance tasks, such as patching, upgrades, and backups, to ensure high platform availability and security. 
• Automate routine tasks, such as environment provisioning, testing, and monitoring, to improve efficiency and reduce manual work. 
• Create and maintain operational documentation including configuration support manuals as the environment evolves. 
• Developing and optimising continuous integration and deployment processes. 
• Provide support and manage the Jira ITSM queue supporting all teams in using platform tools and infrastructure. 
• Create, Maintain and support CICD toolsets, processes and automation supporting the software development lifecycle. 
• Monitoring: Prometheus, AlertManager, Grafana & Google Cloud Monitoring, Azure Monitor and Pingdom. 

What will set you apart from the rest? 

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer who has strong analytical skills to optimise performance and scalability.   

You will also have the following.  

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible automate platform provisioning and management. 
• On-Premises: Strong experience with Active Directory, Windows, Linux, VMWare & Veeam. 
• Hardware: Experience with HPE & Dell hardware including Alletra, Apollo, servers & StoreOnce. 
• Automation & Scripting: Expertise in automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for platform management and operations. 
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve platform issues. 
• Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and security. 
• Service Management: Knowledge and experience using Atlassian Jira & Confluence. 
• Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud environments: Azure & Google Cloud, and familiarity with hybrid cloud deployments.  
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, to automate platform provisioning and management.
